We bring expertise in collaborative construction of architecturally designed spaces fit to a client's needs. On bigger projects, this is typically a team effort between an external architect, an interior designer, the clients, and our design & construction teams. Together with the owners and team, we guide project designs, project budgets, and design specifications to maximize value for the client. We create homes and spaces that are both beautiful and durable. Our larger project portfolio includes new home construction, large home additions, whole-house renovations, and garage/garage apartment construction.

Smaller projects require a more tailored approach but our dedication to building out dream spaces remains unchanged. Here the team and project are often smaller, sometimes with just one external designer and sometimes with design staying in-house, but the attention to detail remains and commitment to quality remain the same. Smaller projects we have built include bathroom renovations, kitchen renovations, landscape and patio additions, small technical projects (custom dog or cat doors, custom screened porches, etc.).

We take on projects ranging in size from bathrooms to additions to whole homes.

Meet the Team

Founded in Houston, Texas in 2021 by Colin Noe, a neuroscience PhD student with a background in homebuilding, PhD Design Build began with small projects in the renovation space. In 2021 Colin completed his PhD at Rice and then transitioned into building custom homes full-time with some of the top builders in Austin, Texas for three years before returning to Houston in 2024. Colin supervised over 18M in new custom homes in the Tarrytown area in Austin. PhD Design Build is ready to help turn your remodeling or new construction dream into a reality. Above all, we are committed to keeping the process on-time, on-budget, and, most importantly, enjoyable.

Alongside PhD Design Build, Colin also runs Greater Good Construction, a non-profit construction firm committed to donating work to those in need in the community. PhD Design build donates 5% of their profits to these causes.

Colin Noe, M.S., PhD

Colin has been in the construction and real estate industries for over 10 years. He has an eye for design but identifies most strongly with the builder role in a construction project - problem solving, decision making, team building, and detail mastery.

Colin has experience across a broad range of project sizes in home construction and renovation - from rebuilding a deck to ripping out all your walls and creating a brand new space, to demolishing the existing structure and starting over again on your lot. Colin has the skills, knowledge, and trade connections to bring your project to completion.

Chief Taco Officer (CTO)

Ella

Ella has been eating tacos for most of her life and considering applying to the taco sommelier's institute. Given her small stature, she is also our chief flooring inspector, and inspector of the inside of all air ducts and crawl spaces.

In her spare time, she provides site security from unexpected visitors.

Rey

Rey is often accompanying Colin around in the truck, and she never misses an opportunity to chase a tennis ball. A true laborador, she befriends everyone instantly, and is ready to play fetch whenever duty calls.
